Today, almost every BMW model is made with run flat tyres in mind, so much so that the handling and the suspension of the vehicle are designed around this type of tyre. On top of the handling and the suspension, it is not uncommon that even the rims of the wheel designed with run flat tyres in mind.
For example, many tyre rims on BMWs now have pressure censor indicators that feedback to the driver when the pressure drops below a dangerous limit. If you replace your run flat tyres with standard ones, then this can cause problems.

If you are travelling abroad make sure you check the laws of the country you are in. Some countries within the EU require all cars to carry a spare tyre. If you are caught without a spare tyre you could find yourself paying out a lot of money in fines.
