To be launched in 2010, the next generation BMW 5 Series comes with an entirely new platform as well as a new exterior designs. Generally speaking, the design is entirely different from the E60 5 Series. The only resemblance is the “flame surfacing”, as how BMW calls it. This is composed of concave and convex shapes.

For a more impressive width, the parts of the tail-lights continue onto the trunk lid.

With an all new Chasis, the sixth generation 5-series has feature similar to double wishbones in the front, like on the new X5. The BMW chasis engineeers said this is to yield better control and road grip around corners. The adaptive shock absorbers is arranged to become more efficient and for the sake of active steering. This is done with the help of the trmendously fast Flex-Ray automotive network communications protocol. The Bavarian auto manufacturer will also be updating its iDrive system with an addition of another couple of programmable buttons.

The sedan is sporty enough. In fact it will come with a V10 motor. That is more power than the 507hp offered in today’s edition.

The BMW insider said the auto maker is not closing its doors to the possibility of putting a similar technology as the full-hybrid system with an electric motor while the making of the model is not yet done.

With all these features, BMW fans will certainly be more excited for the launch of this new vahicle.

BMW 5 Series in production at China

The BMW 5 Series that is currently in production at the Chinese BMW plant in Shenyang is also being fitted with the innovative door panels from Johnson Controls. BMW AG is poised to introduce the newly launched BMW 1 Series Coupe in North America during the upcoming 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show. The year ending show will be the stage for the American debut of the vehicle.

After unveiling the BMW 1 Series Coupe, the German automaker will roll out the vehicle in dealer showrooms all over the United States in the spring of 2008. Only two model variants of the BMW 1 Series Coupe will be offered: the BMW 128i and the BMW 135i. Both model variants will be equipped with a monstrous 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine under its hood.

This power unit for the BMW 1 Series Coupe is capable of producing 300 horsepower and developing 300 lb ft of torque from 1,400 rpm. The engine is also equipped with powertrain features like direct piezo gasoline injectors, twin turbochargers, and Valvetronic valvetrain management (for the 128i Coupe only). With this powertrain package, it allows both the BMW 1 Series Coupe models to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 5.3 seconds, reaching an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. In spite of the powerful performance, the engine still offers an impressive fuel economy and low exhaust emissions.

High quality technical parts continue to the suspension, steering, braking system, and other systems. The new BMW 1 Series Coupe offers a sophisticated suspension system with aluminium double-pivot front suspension and a five-link fully independent rear suspension made of lightweight steel. A sports suspension is also offered, which includes high-performance brake system and brake cooling. Having a code name “E87”, the BMW 1 Series is a small-luxury car but can be considered a small family car. Since 2004, this was produced by German car maker BMW and is built with the aim of competing against the Audi A3 and Volkswagen Golf. The 1 Series is the only vehicle in its class that features a longitudinally-mounted engine and a rear-wheel drive.

The latest version in the successful BMW 1 Series model range, which has been available in the global markets since 2004, the new BMW 128i and 135i CoupÈs, will belong to the Premium Compact segment in Canada.

BMW’s new generation 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder Valvetronic engine with 230 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque will give power to the BMW CoupÈ. Having proven itself in both 3 and 5 Series models, the lightweight magnesium/aluminum engine should provide the BMW 128i CoupÈ with scintillating performance and also produce excellent levels of fuel economy.

BMW’s new twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine with high-precision injection, twin low-mass turbochargers and air-to-air intercooler is also in the BMW CoupÈ. This engine produces 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque from as low as 1,400 rpm, providing the BMW 135i CoupÈ with amazing performance and high fuel efficiency. As a proof of its one-of-a-kind performance, the engine won the 2007 International Engine of the Year award. The 135i CoupÈ accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.3 seconds in European specification.

BMW’s Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) includes a Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) function that offers electronic intervention to avoid loss of vehicle control, but at a higher basis before activation. The DSC system on the CoupÈ is specifically designed for performance-oriented driving. The accelerator pedal, for example, has a quicker response rate and electronic rear brake management is used to pose a differential lock for stronger acceleration in turns.

The 1 Series CoupÈ will bring a new contour to Canadian roads. The definitely unique 2 + 2 configuration will mix a rigid body with short overhangs, striking shoulder line, long engine compartment and wheelbase as well as large frameless doors.

The rear modifies a spoiler into the trunk lid. It does not only create an aggressive appearance, it also provides functional downforce at higher speeds. Both variants will be highlighted by 17-inch and optional 18-inch wheels.
