How To Stop Fantasizing About The BMW M3Sedan

Yes, I know exactly how you feel. When I first saw the TV commercial for the BMW M3, I was totally blown away. My heart was really racing as the announcer says, “Eight thousand four hundred revolutions per minute. The first ever production V8 BMW M3”. That was the most exciting 32 seconds of automotive promotion that I’ve seen in a long time. No wonder there has been 194,234 views of that commercial on YouTube as of April 2008.

As you know, BMW owners are fanatics. And I mean that in a good way.

BMW M GmbH, the motorsports arm of the company, has created the 414 Horsepower V8 high performance production M3. You may not be aware of this, but the M3 sports sedan concept was introduced to the American market in 1988. And since that time it has been nothing but a mutual love affair. Truly it has become one of the greatest fantasies for BMW enthusiasts. Myself included.

See if you don’t agree that this fourth generation BMW M3 has one of the car industry’s most remarkable engines. Not only is it a V8, but it also has more power, less weight and more efficiency than the previous M3 engine that was only 6 cylinders. In addition, your little heart will jump for joy when you hear that this new production V8 gives you 15% increase in power and at the same time you get an 8% improvement in fuel economy. All I can say is WOW.

All these numbers just make my head confused. I only use them to impress my wife as an excuse for me wanting one of these powerful babies. The fact is, I could really care less about the technical “specs” of my fantasy BMW M3. All I want to know is———

How is it going to make me feel when I put the “petal to the metal”?

All of you guys and gals out there who share my fantasy for the BMW M3 understand that it’s all about the feeling. And as the old saying goes about people who do not own a BMW, “If I have to explain it to you, you just won’t understand”. But that’s OK. This only means more excitement for you and me.

Tell me the truth. You feel the same way, don’t you?

In closing let me share with you a few “little known” facts about why all BMWs are so inspiring. Each model is designed with the ability to be recycled at the end of their useful life. In fact, BMW has a separate plant just to “recycle” as much material as possible from cars no longer in service. This helps not only the environment but also the consumer by keeping the new car prices as low as possible.

And one last tid bit for you. Expect to see in the future the coming of hydrogen-powered models. It’s not a matter of “if”, but a matter of when.

So, go feed your fantasy. I promise I won’t tell anyone.

Check out the first ever production BMW M3 and feel the thrill.

Stop Chronic Boredom With This Bmw Museum

Stop Chronic Boredom With This BMW Museum

Do you know why July 20, 2005 was a historic day for BMW?

After much anticipation and excitement, Pickerington, Ohio opened a new exhibit at its “Motorcycle Hall Of Fame Museum”. And the name of the new exhibit could not possibly have been chosen better. The name of its new exhibit said it all, “BMW: The Mastery Of Speed.” You can almost feel the wind rushing past your head, can’t you?

On loan from the Peter Nettesheim collection, this display included many seldom seen machines that are historically important to the development of BMW motorcycles. In addition, the exhibit includes many pictures and artifacts from Mobile Tradition. Just in case you aren’t aware, and very few of us are, Mobile Tradition is the division of BMW that is dedicated to preserving the company’s heritage.

As you know, the heritage of any company is important to its success.

What made this opening especially memorable was the fact that about 9000 members of the “BMW Motorcycle Owners of America” were having their 33rd Annual International Rally in Lima, Ohio from July 21 to July 24, 2005. Tell me that wasn’t a great chance for all the BMW motorcycle enthusiasts to “party” and have a great time. It definitely made the opening of the exhibit a successful event.

The fact is, that BMW understood long before other companies, that what really sells motorcycles is “performance”. That’s why they have always been leading the pack and on the cutting edge of design and technology. One of the things that made the opening of this exhibit thrilling, was how it gave visitors the chance to see how the BMW motorcycle evolved from day one up until the present time.

You might say that the exhibit itself is “an exhilarating ride”.

Because I have a passion for discovering little-known stories and facts about BMW motorcycles and vehicles, sharing this story with you is a big deal for me. It goes to show you that the BMW tradition and excitement isn’t limited to its sedans, coupes, convertibles or roadsters.

Our “two footed” friends, my own affectionate term for BMW motorcycles, are just as important to me as other products of the company. What do you think?

I don’t want to give you the complete list of what you will find at the “Motorcycle Hall Of Fame Museum” because I don’t want to spoil it for you. It would be like me telling you the ending of a movie that you haven’t seen yet. That would be nothing but poor taste on my part. So I won’t do that to you.

I’ll give you just a few tasty treats of what you will find at the museum.

How would you like to feast your eyes on the 1927 BMW R47. Only 1,720 were sold between 1927 and 1928. Also to satisfy your BMW historical “ sweet tooth”, you’ll see their motorcycles from almost every decade in BMW history. Including the R5, which as most avid enthusiasts know, was the most consistent road-going twin cam race winner for BMW.

You no longer have an excuse to be bored.

Get off the couch and “Stop Chronic Boredom With This BMW Museum”.

You’ll love it.

Why does my BMW shudder on accelerating from a dead stop or a roll-on from below 5 mph?

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

My 1998 BMW 328i shudders slightly when I accelerate from a dead stop or when I accelerate from a roll below 5 mph. The shuddering starts at around 5 mph and between 1700 and 2200 rpm. The shuddering feels as if it is coming from the rear passenger wheel and it abates once I’ve passed 10 mph.
